Kids Can Luncheon - May 6, 2010

Our sixth annual Kids Can luncheon fundraiser was held on May 6, 2010  at the Downtown DoubleTree Hotel.  This year was our most successful event ever, raising over $74,000 and attracting nearly 400 attendees!   To see photos of the event, go to our Flickr page.   Special thanks to Kim Therkildsen Photography for providing this year's event photos.

Our ‘corporate working lunch’ focused on employee engagement and retention, particularly in these economic times.  Our keynote speaker was Rodd Wagner, New York Times bestselling author and a principal of Gallup.  He is the co-author of 12: The Elements of Great Managing and Power of 2: How to Make the Most of Your Partnerships at Work.

We are proud to have the Weitz family as our honorary chairs for this event: Barbara & Wally Weitz, Katie & Watie White, Roger & Kate Weitz and Drew & Meredith Weitz.  The Weitz Family Foundation has been a longtime supporter of our community as well as Kids Can. Their mission is to break the cycle of poverty through the enrichment of body, mind and spirit by empowering individuals, agencies, and organizations like ours to improve the quality of life and to promote an equitable and peaceful society. The Weitz Family is a leader in Omaha in supporting new and innovative groups needing assistance to become established and by presenting new ideas for positive social change.

We also presented Paul Sather with the 2010 Can Do! award.  Through his many roles at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Paul has made a great impact on the Kid Can Community Center as well as countless nonprofit organizations in the area.  As the Director of the Service Learning Academy and American Humanics program, Paul continues to make differences in the lives of thousands of students and has been nationally recognized for his leadership in building a culture of engagement at the university.  Check out a video of Paul receiving the award on the Kid Can Youtube page.

Special thanks to Kim Therkildsen for providing photography for the event.
